Two comments I’d like to respond to.

First, the comment about people who come in and say, “I used to/do work in retail, and I know how things work.” Then they’ll be a jerk in some fashion, and you just can’t imagine why they’d do such things. That’s happened to me a number of times. I just want to scream at them, but if they’re that far gone, there’s no point.

Another comment about how 90-some percent of customers are nice and fine, so there’s nothing to get worked up about. I won’t argue numbers, but there are a lot of customers out there who are rude. And you have to deal with one or more at least every couple days, if not more often. Sure, most people are fine, but enough aren’t, and that spoils the job (as if a thousand other things didn’t). It doesn’t take too many screaming jerkbags to ruin your day/week/job in general.
