As it turns out, our head artist’s career shift has not left her with more time. Less, actually. So no comic today, and honestly, I’m not sure when the next one will be up. I know inconsistancy is the cardinal sin in a comic, but there’s nothing to be done about that right now. At this point, we’re shooting for updates once a week. Check back next Monday.

The difference, I guess is whether it’s processed or not. It is apparently an expensive process to make healthy food. Unless it occurs in nature. But we don’t want that crap, do we? No, of course not. Artificial healthy food is way, way better than apples or whatever.

Some coworkers and I once came across a loaf of carb-free bread. Don’t ask; I don’t know. The weird part was that we smashed it flat - really flat - and it just popped back up to normal size. We kept smashing it, and it kept coming back. I don’t know that you could rightfully call such a thing food.

I don’t really understand the appeal of some things. I mean, I like fast food burgers, Wendy’s especially, but there comes a point where you’re just advertising how bad the food is for you. The Baconator comes to mind. I love bacon, and who doesn’t? But we all know it’s bad for you, despite tasting so good. But a sandwich that contain a metric ton of bacon is a tough sell, or so I might think. But I would be wrong; people love their grease-soaked nightmares.

I’ll bet those SOB’s would fly off the shelves. I know I’d buy one. Probably try and breed them in order to make an army, crush all opposition, and take over the world.

But, I don’t know. I used to want to rule the world, but as I’ve grown up and seen more of it, I don’t know that I even want it anymore. Seems like a colossal hassle, really. There probably wouldn’t be as much time for sitting at home all day playing video games.

I have a large picture in my home that I purchased from my place of employment. I waited for a year or so until it went on sale and bought it cheap, but it’s still discount store art. I like it just fine, though.

There are some stupid pictures for sale, and I always wondered who buys them. I’ve never seen, to my recollection, a single person buying art. But they must, because I see different pieces of “art” around all the time. Oh well. What else are people going to do? Buy expensive art from fancy artists with reputations? It’ll probably all look the same hanging in someone’s bathroom anyway.

And we’re finally back on track.

Stephanie is based on a real manager of mine. Her character here doesn’t really reflect what she’s really like, but there are a few stories that we’re going to tell that really happened, and they are just wonderful.

ANNOUNCEMENT: We’ll be taking a two week hiatus after this comic. This weekend is jammed full, and then we’re heading up to Canada for most of next week for Thanksgiving. And before you ask, no, Canada doesn’t celebrate our Thanksgiving. But the family we’re going to visit does. Anyway, we’ll be back on December 3rd. For all the people I know in real life, this won’t matter, since you all only “check back every month or six.”

Just so everyone remembers, we’re not replacing Bill permanently. I know he’s a lot of people’s favorite, so don’t freak out.

So, in Indiana, there are these “Blue Laws” that prevent you from purchasing booze on Sundays. This is a major pain to recall when in line at the checkout with your booze. Oh well, I still got my angel food cake. BAM.

Do other states have that kind of thing? I really mean to ask: “which ones?”

UPDATE: We had some friends from out of town over last night, so the comic didn’t get drawn. It’ll be up tomorrow.

There was a comment by Shaina that Shop Mart probably would have made Ian cut his hair by now. I don’t think they’d care enough. I have long hair and it’s only ever come up once in my entire life. I was applying to a small town grocery store in my early college years, and during the interview, the lady kept saying that she knew that “times are changing.”

She said that a few times and asked if I’d be ok wearing it under a hat if it became a problem. I agreed because that would have been fine, but it totally wasn’t going to be a problem. I mean seriously, I have long hair, not a bunch of facial tattoos or whatnot.

What stupid stuff have you guys dealt with in respect to appearances at work?

Normally, I refrain from talking about my personal life on here because no one cares. And today will, of course, be no exception. However, we have been watching the show Dexter lately, and it’s just wonderful. I’m not providing a synopsis; go look it up yourself.

There. That’s a wonderful view into my exciting life. I watch tv shows sometimes.

So it’s National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. There’s a website. The point is to sign up and write 50,000 words in November. I’m trying this time. I’m up to 1722 so far. I know I’m already behind, but it’ll be ok. Wish me luck, and/or let me know how you’re all doing.

I see people applying at the little computer kiosks sometimes. I want to warn them. But maybe they won’t listen, maybe they won’t care, or maybe they already know and have no choice. I might have said all that before. But I still see people doing it, and I still want to chase them away for their own good.

People think it’s easy, being on the other side of the counter. And I’ll admit, it can look that way. It is not.

So a friend of mine wasn’t having any money taken out of her paycheck for insurance. Today, when she brought it up to her HR lady, it became apparent that she would need to pay back this money she’d not been paying for two months.

Which is total BS, I say.

The company or their computer system or whatever screwed up. This amounts to around five hundred bucks now. So they’re going to take it out of her paychecks for the rest of the year. Less money for Christmas, yay!

Seriously, it’s their freakin’ mistake. They should take the five hundred dollar hit. They can spare it way more than she can. Also, it’s their freakin’ mistake. I know some of you might say, “but they were providing the insurance, she of course should have to pay the money.” You people are heartless jerks. Not that I have much of a heart myself, but you know.
